Effect of 15 July Military Coup Attempt on Turkey-European Union Relations

Turkey continues to pursue its efforts to join the European Union, since she has chosen as a target for more than half a century, despite all the problems experienced with Member States. However, the Westernization efforts of Turkey until today have not yet ensured ultimate goal of full membership. Likewise, today, initiation of full membership negotiations between Turkey and European Union did not alter the distant stance of the Union towards Turkey and insisting attitude not to get Turkey in. The basic justification for this paper is based on the quest of the ideological reasons behind this tenacious attitude and how undemocratic approach of European Union particularly before and after the failed 15th July coup attempt would affect future relations
