Stigma Toward to Mental Illness-Review

In this study, it was aimed to review previous research studies and present published literature regarding the stigma, attitude and belief of mental illness. Previous studies about attitudes, beliefs and stigmatization of mental illnesses were investigated. The theses, the researches and methods of the published studies, the obtained results and the recommendations were reviewed. The obtained data were collected under a specific title and the studies about similar subjects were evaluated together. In the literature review, the results of the current studies examining about the attitudes and beliefs towards mental illnesses of individuals were different segments, occupations, education level and different age were obtained. Mental illnesses are known throughout the society. However, it was found that individuals in society had negative attitudes about mental illnesses and their awareness and knowledge levels about mental illnesses were very important. As a result of the study, it was determined that information training about mental illness to be given to each individual in different segments of the society. It provides to be more positive stigmatizing toward mental diseases. In addition, it is expected that the anti-stigma training programs to be given in the education process will benefit to improving the beliefs and attitudes towards mental illness
