Abstract:

In this research has been developed a valid and reliable scale/data collection tool that can be used to determine the learning difficulties experienced by university students in foreign language learning. The research is a qualitative and quantitative study. The sample of the study consisted of 495 students from Foreign Language Preparatory Education at Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University. The data were collected with a draft scale form containing 36 items. At the end of the research, a five-point Likert-type scale consisting of 29 items collected under 5 factors was developed. The scale was called “Foreign Language Learning Difficulties Scale (FLLDS)”. The KMO value of the scale was 0.937; Bartlett Test values x2 = 5707,914; df=46; p <0.001. The validity of the scale was investigated by exploratory factor analysis and discriminant analysis. The factor loadings of the scale items are 0.45 and higher. The total amount of variance explained was 54,821%. Item total correlation coefficients were significant at p<.001. In the scope of the reliability analysis of the scale, consistency and stability characteristics were examined. The Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of the scale is 0.923. Stability analysis was tested with relationship between two measurements. At the end of the analysis, stability coefficients of each item and factors were found to be significant at p<.001
