Play and Historical Role of Play in Education

Play is a pervasive activity in human life. It starts in very early months of life and continues through lifetime in different forms and styles. Similarly, education is a lifelong concern. Play and education, therefore, intercept and take place simultaneously in human development. Due to this correspondence, the purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between play and education from a developmental and historical perspective. The method of the study was based on the review of the relevant literature with a focus on historical ideas. Formerly, the place of play in human life emphasizing the evolutionary, social and intellectual aspects and following that the ideas proposed related to role of play in education were revisited
