An Overlook of Ibn Khaldun’s Concept of “Asabiyyah” Through the Concept of “Nation”

This study aims to give a reading of comparision compr Ibn Khaldun's concept of “asabiya” to the concept of “nation” and “nationality” within the context of 3 basic approaches. In this parallel, the concept of “asabiya” by Ibn Khaldun through the society will be discussed. The aim and definition of the concept of “asabiya” in Islamic political thought and how it place to the social transformation, and what it means for Arab tribe societies. From this point of view, the similarities and differentiations between the concept of nation which is defined by primordialist, modernist and socio-biological approaches, and the concept of asabiya will be executed. The argument of the study is based on an assessment from a concept which comes from Islamic political thought and another concept which comes from Western political thoughts, in which they can be parallel or different in explaining the social order
