Realistic Venue Use From Realist Russian Literature To Early Soviet Cinema

Abstract:

Era of revolutions begins with the French Revolution and this process ends at the first quarter of the XX?th century. Industrial Revolution and 1917 Russian Revolution are only two of the revolutions. Revolutions have effects across the world. Russia enters the XIX. century with great problems. The process that ends with the 1815 Vienna Congress. Napoleonic Wars is important. Napoleon establishes an empire from Madrid to Moscow. Due to Russian resistance and heavy winter conditions, the Empire was short-lived. Russians save their land from invasion but wars bring about a great destruction in Russia. Russia loses four hundred thousand troops in this period. The wars never ends. In Russia, the general condition of the people is bad despite the removal of land dependency on slavery while the Tsar and his surroundings live in prosperity. This contradiction has fostered Russian realistic literature. This literature is effective for enlightening the period of writing. All these constitute the substructure of the 1917 Revolution. Realistical literature is a match while economic and social conditions are dried leaves and herbs. It is not known when it will be triggered. These herbs, which sometimes ignited, are ruthlessly suppressed by the Tzarism. Fire in 1917 cannot be prevented. The Bolsheviks win some military officers -influenced by Russian literature- over. As the slogan "peace, bread, land, freedom" used in the Revolution of 1917, Russian literary figures deal with issues such as land, poverty, war, misery. In the works of authors like Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Gorki, Gogol, the events happen in places which the readers know. Early Russian filmmakers use streets and harbours as a set. The understanding of the real venue use has hit the top by directors like Sergei Eisenstein, Pudovkin and Vertov. Russian realistic literature and Russian cinema are parallel to venue use. In literary works, venue is envisioned in reader?s mind by way of event patterns and dialogues rather than depiction of excessive venue. The films are displayed in a constant venue image. Directors have used too much close-ups to increase the impact. Although the spatial phenomenon disappears here, the spatial perception of the spectator is alive in the mind because of the sequence of events. Russian literature prepares the revolution based on the techniques it uses, including spatial use. The Russian cinema maintains the revolution
