Abstract:

Anatolia is an important geographic region that has been accepted by all humanity with its unique cultural assets which have been gained by the societies that have lived on it for centuries. Innovations and developments especially in the field of architecture and art provide important contributions to today's cultural environment. The Seljuks brought the tile art to Anatolia and particularly extant samples of the works of architecture are rich in form, composition and decoration. The Ottoman Empire is another period that provides the samples of Anatolia's cultural treasure. One of the most important elements reflecting the richness and magnificence of the Empire is glass material. These two periods, which constitute the identity of Turkish architectural history, have made important contributions to architectural structures by using ceramic and glass materials as an aesthetic element. The research subject of this study is limited to the tiles of the Seljuk period and glass art of the Ottoman period. The reason for this limitation is that the Seljuks first brought the tile to Anatolia and the best examples of glassware were seen in the architecture of the Ottoman period. The research was conducted with a qualitative and descriptive research design. Firstly, the literature was searched for, and also for the purpose of collecting data, interviews with Dr. Lale Dilba?, a glass expert, were held. In addition, the Event-Case (Anecdote) Registration method was examined at the places mentioned in the subject area as much as possible and the observation record was provided objectively. At the end of the research it has been observed that the use of ceramic and glass materials, which have made significant contributions to the field of architecture throughout Anatolia, has been decreasing nowadays, and the continuation of the rooted tradition from the past cannot be sustained and the production has entered the process of degeneration
