THE ANALYZING OF THE EFFECTS OF THE PLACES IN THE ü？ ？STANBUL NOVELS ON ADNAN’S PERSONALITY ？N THE CONTEXT OF ID, EGO AND SUPEREGO

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of the places in ü？ ？stanbul novels, which are important works of Turkish Literature, on the personality of Adnan, in the context of ？d, ego and superego. Mithat Cemal Kuntay, in the ü？ ？stanbul novels, ？d, ego, and superego systems of Sigmund Freud’s Structural Personality Theory: ？stanbul’s first Abdülhamid, then ？ttihat and Terakki and last period of the Armistice Period, the places of these periods on Adnan’s personality. In the context of superego, Adnan tells another person in the novel. As the periods differ in the novel, ？stanbul changes with historical periods and historical places and Adnan. In every period, Adnan comes across a variety of personality traits. Each period is under the influence of different personality mechanisms. Abdülhamid Period; the places, the palace, the mansion of Hidayet, the mansion of the Minister of the Finance, the mansion of the Chief of Staff, is the house of Adnan in Aksaray. Those living in these places are under the control of the ？d. Id is the most primitive part of personality. He wants to have everything he wants with the innate impulses and reflexes. The place in the period of the ？ttihat and Terakki; Adnan’s Mansion, office and Ra？el’s Mansion. People living here are under the control of the ego. The ego is the clever but unethical part of personality. Balance between id and superego. Defence mechanisms are active. The place in the period of the Armistice; Na？it’s mansion is Adnan and Süheyla’s mansion in Bozdo？an Kemer and it is the pavilion at Erenk？y where Süheyla was moved at the end of the novel. People living in these places are under the control of the superego. These people are in a big deal with the past. They are alone with their conscience. In this study; ？d, ego and superego, which are influential in Adnan’s personality structure, are examined around historical places and it is aimed to bring a new perspective to the studies in this field
