Changing Movie Watching Habits and Reality of Hollywood in Cinema: The Attitude of Radio Television and Cinema Students to the Issue

Lumier Brothers, not only started the history of cinema by first movie exhibition, which they carried out with a device called Cinematograph that they invented in 22 December 1895 in Paris Grand Cafe, but they also established cinema, which is billions-worth global sector today. In this sense, Hollywood appears as a global agent, and local movies can not compete with Hollywood productions at the box office. On the other hand, movies, apart from magical silver screen, are also watched several other technological devices such as; television, computer (internet, dvd), tablet computer, and mobile phone. And for movie culture, this shows the tendency to screen. In this research, it was tried to be figured out that, how those two assumptions are evaluated by students of Radio Television and Cinema at Communications Faculties, which make significant contributions to Cinema sector. The data if about the preferences of those students who study Radio Television and Cinema at private and state universities in Ankara were tried to be collected. For example, if they prefer going to cinema or not, if not, which platform they prefer more, their preferences between local movies and Hollywood productions, what are the most important problems of local movies. In this study, the emerge of cinema, the success of Hollywood against local movies, and transition to screen culture from silver screen were analysed. Then, the findings of the poll applied to Radio Television Cinema students were evaluated. Students studying Radio Television and Cinema at Ankara, Ba？kent and Gazi Universities were taken as sample of the research. Based on quantitative research method, 14 questions, 2 of which are open-ended, were asked to the students. And datas were evaluated in SPSS program. Depending on the results, it was revealed that even students studying cinema prefer watching movies on computer, instead of going to cinema. It was also found out that, they prefer Hollywood and science-fiction movies.
