Comparison of Seafood Consumption Preferences and Habits in Ankara and ?anakkale (Turkey)

Abstract:

This study aims to determine the consumption behavior of seafood of people in Ankara and ?anakkale by a questionnaire composed of 20 questions. The questionnaire was applied on random 200 people. Some characteristics such as age, gender, profession, educational status and income level of people considered for correct results. Results analyzed, on MS-Excel and SPSS software and achieved charts due to these results. 52 % of peoples that joined survey consumption of seafood lower than 1 kg and 59 % of them were sensitive for fishing ban and fish sizes. Furthermore, 34 % of people preferred red meat and 28 % of them preferred fish meat. Searching consumption of seafood due to seasons; 13 % in spring, 19 % in summer, 31 % in fall and 37 % in winter. And also, from spring to winter, consumption of seafood has increased. Besides, due to preferences of consumption determined as 43.5 % from hunting and 56.5 % from aquaculture of seafood, 47 % fresh fishes and 58 % natural fish. 81 % of total people have been eaten seafood one of a week or a month were determined. According to the survey conducted in both provinces, the consumption of fish is expected to be at a lower level in Ankara due to its distance from sea. However, fish consumption in Ankara was higher than expected and found to be similar to ?anakkale. Generally, people joined the survey were aware about the advantages of the consumption of seafood and health but, consumption of red meat higher than seafood
