UTILIZATION FROM TRADITION IN PEDAGOGY: NASREDDIN HODJA SAMPLE

Abstract:

Nasreddin Hodja is a character who became a universal identity by having an international fame in a wide geography reaching from Azerbaijan to Yugoslavia, from America to Japan, enshrined in the hearts of people not only from Anatolia but whole Turkish nations and also Balkan. As we have understood from sources, Nasreddin Hodja is a madrasa hodja, meaning he is a “teacher”. The students of Nasreddin Hodja were not only madrasa students. He is a dominant and wise person who educated many from all segments of society as children, young and old ones. As it is certain, education philosophy is more important matter than education technic. If we do not have an education philosophy, it is not possible to raise ‘virtuous generations’ which should be the purpose of education, no matter we develop curriculum or technic as much as we want. In fact, the main and crucial problem of our Turkish National Education system is the problem of education philosophy. In second section of our notification, some Nasreddin Hodja hoaxes that we collected from reliable sources, shall be taken into consideration in terms of education philosophy and method. The purpose of our notification is to determine the real identity and historical character of Nasreddin Hodja who is one of important representatives and carriers of our culture, and to interpret again in terms of education philosophy and education of values. With this purpose, primary sources mentioning Nasreddin Hodja have been evaluated and printed and written work of arts consisting his hoaxes have been examined. In interpretation of the hoaxes, paraphrase of Nasreddin Hodja Hoaxes and classical Turkish-Islam work of arts have been utilized. Also, it has been determined that many hoaxes which are real and close to real, consist of figurative meaning and figurative meaning and messages of these jokes have been interpreted. It has been determined and analyzed that Nasreddin Hodja jokes consist of embodiments which are suitable almost all notions which are taken into consideration in scope of today’s education of values such as “ love, respect, responsibility, justice, trust, tolerance, humanitarianism, diligence, austerity, patience
