The Role of Tourism Businesses in The Lack of Qualified Workforce in The Tourism Industry: A Review of Job Advertisements

One of the most important factors for tourism development is qualified workforce. However, serious problems especially related to the qualifications of employees in the tourism business in Turkey is concerned. Does tourism businesses have a share in this lack? This question is the starting point of this research. In this regard it is important to examine job advertisements for the tourism sector. Because job advertisements are the first step in what kind of qualities have been seek by businesses. For this purpose, in this study job advertisements of tourism in turizmgazetesi.com were examined. The main purpose of this research is to make inferences about the role of tourism businesses in the lack of qualified workforce, by examining the job advertisements in Turkey. The research data consists of job advertisements declared on the relevant website between March 17, 2018 and June 21, 2018. As a result of the review, a total of 1927 advertisements were evaluated. In data analysis, frequency analysis was used. As a result of the analysis, it was deduced that a significant part of the tourism businesses do not care about the quality of the employees. Since this research is one of the pioneering studies on the subject, it is expected that the findings of research will contribute to tourism literature
