A STUDY ON ACADEMIC CHALLENGES OF SYRIAN STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VAN YUZUNCU YIL

This study aims to examine the process and problems of Syrian higher education level students who has taken shelter in Turkey since 2011 when internal disorders emerged in Syria. The study has been carried out at Van Yüzüncü Y？l University which ranks high in terms of having large numbers of Syrian students. University life is a tough period that holds both problems and new experiences as well. This period also brings about adaptation and social admitance problems for Syrian students who is away from their own culture and who have been forced to imigrate. In the study, by using quantitative and qualitative research methods, semi-structured interview questionnaires have been applied to Syrian students and the results have been evaluated in a statistical environment. Therefore, Syrian students’ educational and academic problems have been deected and their expectations have been assesed. Finally, it is assumed that this study will be a sourcein terms of creating a common source towards the problems that are experienced by foreign national students throughout their higher education level
