DEVELOPMENT OF A LIKERT TYPE ATTITUDE SCALE OF TEACHERS TOWARD SCHOOL PRINCIPALS: RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY STUDYKeywords: Okul müdürleri, tutum, likert,?l?ek geli?tirme Abstract: The aim of this study is to develop a likert-type scale for “Determining Teachers' Attitudes towards School Principals.” The study group is composed of 325 volunteers who are currently working at a school in Mersin. As a result of the examination of the experts, the pre-scale was reduced from 99 to 56 items. Then, the data obtained by applying the pre-scale to the study group, means, standard deviations, item total test correlations, Cronbach α and test-retest reliability coefficients were calculated and the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes of the scale were made. As a result of the analyzes, the final form of 27 items was obtained. As a result of the varimax rotation of the exploratory factor analysis, the scale including of 27 items consisted of one dimension and six components. Cronbach α (internal consistency) coefficient was 0.91 (p<.05) and test-retest reliability was 0.78 (p<.01). As evidence for the content validity of the scale, the opinions of the experienced teachers and the assessment and evaluation experts in the profession were taken while writing the items of the scale. Finally, confirmatory factor analysis was performed on the data obtained by applying the final form of 27 items to 101 teachers. The ratio of chi-square statistics to degree of freedom according to the results of the confirmatory factor analysis made as evidence for the construct validity of the scale (x2 / df) 1.28 (x2= 395.10 df = 309); root mean square approximation of error (RMSEA) .05; standardized root mean square residual (SRMR) .06; goodness of fit index (GFI) .85; adjusted goodness of fit index (AGFI) .80; normed fit index (NFI) .92; The comparative fit index (CFI) value was .98. Accordingly, a reliable and valid scale was developed within the scope of the results obtained from the study
