An enhanced method for determining edge orientations in color images

In this work, a novel feature extraction method, which eliminates the disadvantage of CoHOG is proposed. DAR (double angle representation) method is used to determine edge orientations in conventional methods. DAR method is quite important in determining feature quality. However, the DAR method has some drawbacks. By using color gradient method instead of DAR method can eliminate these drawbacks. The proposed method in this work has two contributions. The one is without increasing feature dimension, provides higher classification accuracy. The second is that, performing the feature extraction process in a shorter time. Therefore, the proposed method is convenient for real-time applications. Obtained results clearly reveal the superiority of the proposed method in terms of time and accuracy
