The availability of sewage sludge in ornamental kale cultivation

The rapid increasing of the world population, migrations from rural to urban areas and industrialization are enhancing the amount of waste water day by day. The amount of sewage sludge along with waste water also shows a rapid increase. Sewage sludge can be reused in agriculture, forest, mines and landscape areas. The research was conducted to designate the chance of ornamental kale cultivation in sewage sludge in open area between November 2015 and February 2016. As growing media, 0% sewage sludge + 100% soil (S1), 25% sewage sludge + 75% soil (S2), 50% sewage sludge + 50% soil (S3), 75% sewage sludge + 25% soil (S4) and 100% sewage sludge + 0% soil (S5) were used in the research. Plants were grown in plastic pots in open area. Some parameters like EC, pH, stem diameter, root weight, root length, plant height, plant diameter, head weight, unusable leaf number and total leaf number was obtained from the research. The highest head weight and total leaf number were determined at S2 (103.99 g, 40.42 number) and S5 (90.53 g, 38.42 number) growing media. These growing media may be used in the ornamental kale cultivation
