Perception Study for Determining the Increase in Accident Rates of the Employees Who Graduate Vocational High Schools and the Evaluations

Turkish Statistical Institute, Department of Labor Force and Living Conditions “Occupational Accidents and Occupational Diseases” 2013 Report has shown that the employees who graduate from Vocational High Schools have more occupational accidents than those who graduate from other high schools. Since 2012 when the law was enforced; bureaucrats, academicians and researchers have repeatedly expressed the principle that Occupational Safety must be internalized at an early age as a “Culture” at home, on the street and at school. The “safety perception” of vocational high school graduates who learn the concepts of “Danger-Risk” while at school and earlier than their peers and the fact that such perception cannot be internalized “culturally” is the indicator of the problem. A practice has been conducted within the scope of this study for the purpose of measuring the perception levels of Vocational High School students about “danger and risk”. To this end, a study was conducted with the students of chemistry department in the vocational high schools located in two different districts inside the city of Istanbul. Population is the vocational high schools while the sample is limited to 200 students. Two different schools have been particularly preferred so that the effect of dangerous situations and spatial adequacy can be measured. The purpose of the survey filled out by the students was to define the perception and the data that has been obtained from the survey is presented in the findings section.
