An Anthropological Analysis on the Culture of Camel Wrestling and Camel Dealing

Once culture of camel dealing was widespread and advanced in Anatolia. Today, in Turkey, apart from providing some needs of nomadic Yoruk tribes like livestock, dairying and transportation, camels are usually breeding for wrestling in the west part of Anatolia. Those environments made use of camels are also become the places where first camel wrestling organizations are observed. Although the camel wrestling culture in particular is dependent on many factors of gaining a widespread acceptance in those circles, it can primarily be connected to the presence of rich camel existence in the Yoruk culture of Western Anatolia. This paper is looking for the answer of these questions; why camels are wrestles? Why people are wrestling the camels? What is the social status of being a cameleer or what is it mean to be owner of a camel in the society? This paper is based on an anthropological fieldwork research conducted in the camel wrestling areas by doing ethnographic interviews with the camel owners. We will try to examine data of the research through the phrase interpreting the cultures within the framework of interpretive anthropology
