Is Sheikh Galib's “T?t?-i Zenb?r” a Flower?

Abstract:

In this study, the "t?t?-i zenb?r" phrase in a couplet of Sheikh Galib will be discussed. The couplet which includes this phrase is: G?ya hayal-i hatt-? lebüňle müjemde h?n / Ba?-? vefada t?t?-i zenb?rdur bana. There are basically two views on how this couplet should be understood. The studies on the subject are generally quoted by the statements of Ali Nihat Tarlan and Abdulkadir Gürer in explaining this sentence. According to these interpretations, this phrase in the couplet should be understood as "chatty parrot" or "a mythological bird with a half parrot and the other half a wasp". But we think that this phrase has a different meaning and “t?t?-i zenb?r” may be the name of a flower. In fact, this word was recorded as a flower name in an manuscript found in Kastamonu. According to the tradition of Divan poetry it is more appropriate to understand this phrase as a flower. In the last part of our work, we will present our findings on this subject
