Micronuclei Analysis and Nuclear Abnormalities in Lissotriton vulgaris (Linnaeus, 1758) (Amphibia: Urodela) Specimens Collected in ?anakkaleKeywords: Lissotriton vulgaris,?anakkale, mikronukleus testi, nuklear anomali,Urodela, nuklear anomali Abstract: In this study, Lissotriton vulgaris specimens collected from different locations in ?anakkale (Kalabakba??; 12 (5♂♂, 7♀♀), Kirazl?; 9 (4♂♂, 5♀♀)) were analyzed. In the blood samples from the specimens, micronuclei (MN) and nuclear abnormalities (NA), an indicator of damage in a genetic material, were identified. Cytoplasmic vacuole (CV) and microcytes too were detected in addition to micronuclei and four types of nucleolar anomalies, i.e. binucleated, blebbed, lobed, and notched nucleus. A statistically significant difference was found between the two localities in terms of notched, blebbed and lobulated nuclear abnormalities respectively. The between-group comparison of the female and male L. vulgaris populations in Kalabakba?? and Kirazl? localities yielded highly significant differences in the NA number. In addition, the gender-based comparisons revealed no significant difference in the total number of CV, MN, and NA in the two localities. Relying on the obtained results, genotoxic substances may be suggested to occur due to the mining-oriented work in Kirazl? and MN formation, one of the indicators of genotoxic damage, to have resulted from the pollutants therein
