Turkey, Germany and India Health System: A Comparative Analysis

Abstract:

As of 2003, Turkey has entered into a reformative process of change in health field. The aim of this study is to examine the current state of the health system in Turkey on the basis of 2000-2015 period in comparison with selected countries. Based on the country classification in Roemer M.’s (1991) study, Germany and India were selected among the welfare-oriented countries to be compared with Turkey. Turkey, India, and Germany are presented with both demographic and health indicators in the study. The data concerning basic health indicators of the period 2000-2015 reveals that there were developments in Turkey’s general health system and health indicators. When compared to Germany, which is a country with a strong health system and high welfare standards, Turkey seems not to have reached the general health system and basic health indicators of that country. However, Turkey has been found out as having better standards in terms of health indicators than India which is described as “bright spot” in the global plan and has the seventh largest economy of the world but lagging behind Germany in terms of economic development level. In the light of the data analyzed, it has been found out that Turkey has not reached the health standards of developed countries while it has better health indicators than the developing ones
