Sustainability of Salda Lake Protected Area

Despite many attempts and efforts in order to preserve biodiversity and natural resource values, the protected areas are subject to many threats and restrictions. Especially the deficiencies in institutional structuring within the protected areas, the utilization demand stress and some other administrative gaps are considered as the biggest threats. Whereas, protected areas, not only today but also in the future poses an important function in providing food, fresh air and sufficient water that humanity needs. In the management of protected areas, the national and field-specific laws and regulations of the countries play an effective role. International conventions adopted by the countries for protection, management and sustainable use of biological diversity and natural resource values are also effective. In this article, the ecological adaptation and contradictions of economic, legal and region-specific determinants in Salda Lake are examined and how the administration, in which sustainability approach is prioritized in long term development plans of our natural areas like Salda Lake should be, is discussed
