Abstract:

The aim of the research is to examine the mental well-being and decision making styles of the individual and team athletes who are in the active sports in terms of different variables, revealing the relationship between their mental well-being and decision making styles. Relational screening method was used in the research. In order to collect data, Personal Information Form, "Decision Making Style Scale (KVS?)" adopted by Ta?delen (2002), “Warwick Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale" adapted by Keldal (2015) were used. It was determined that each independent variable has a distribution of Skewness and Kurtosis values between ±1. Accordingly, frequencies, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson Correlation test, one-way variance analysis and Post-Hoc test statistics tests were applied to analyze the data. A statistically significant relationship has been found between mental well-being levels and sub-dimensions of decision making styles except “avoidant decision making" and "spontaneous-instant decision making" sub-dimensions. While decision making styles and mental well-being of participants are not significantly differentiated according to variables such as age, sports age, and sports branches, it differentiates in terms of "rational decision making","dependent decision making" and " avoidant decision-making" sub-dimensions according to their level of education. Whereas decision making styles do not differ significantly by gender variable, mental well-being differs significantly in favor of men. It was concluded that there was a meaningful relationship between participants’ decision making styles and mental well-being. As a result of, although mental well-being was higher in favor of men considering sex, no significant difference was found in terms of decision making styles
