A General Review On The Implementation Of The Environmental Impact Assessment And Strategic Environmental Assessment In Turkey

Environmental impact assessment was formerly a part of cost – benefit analysis. Later, cost – benefit analysis has become a part of environmental impact assessment. Environmental impact assessment of which origin is USA is one of the implementation tool of both sustainable development and environmental politics. Environmental politics have been determined in the context of sustainable development with many meetings gathered by international organizations and hereby these meetings it has been stated that one of the implementation tool of those politics is environmental impact assessment. Environmental impact assessment has been come into force late due to rapid development in Turkey. Bylaw on strategic environmental assessment, however, has been able to be adopted in 2017. Turkey, who is in the European Union membership process, also must comply with EU environmental impact and strategic environmental assessment legislation. In this context, directives of European Union legislation on environmental impact and strategic environmental assessment have been given along with the implementation in Turkey. In consequence of the research, we make out that Turkey has complied with European Union requirements on environmental impact and strategic environmental assessment
