Measuring the Competitiveness of Konya Dairy Products Sector with Porter Analysis

The sectoral and regional studies on competitiveness reveal the structural strength of the firms operated in economic sphere. It is also strongly emphasized in Porter’s approach that how competition is reflected in domestic and foreign markets, what the competitive environment of firms teach them and how they should be shaped according to the increasing / changing competition structures. In this context, the government and supporting sectors are essential in terms of the regional presence of the sector. Konya dairy products sector has an important place in Turkey. In addition to the production capacity of the sector, the question of how the potential of both livestock and dairy products has an effect on competitiveness is noteworthy. In this study, 45 of the 72 representatives from the sector were surveyed and the findings were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it is found that the dairy products sector has a high importance, and the need for investment has been found to be valid for all competition factors as a result of the insufficient development of the sector. In other words, the sector must be developed by investing in all factors in the competition diamond. The necessary recommendations regarding the development of the sector, which is the middle level of the current competitiveness, are discussed in the last section
