Enhanced Bassoon Reed

One of the scientific outputs of the project “The Development of Bassoon Reed Project” funded by Ya？ar University Scientific Research Project (SRP) is the production of reed in a new style with special forms and dimensions outside the standard measurements in the bassoon. The purpose in producing this new style reed is to get brighter sounds in the bassoon; thus, to reach new sound colors outside the use of the instrument until today. It is also aimed to ensure that the high-pitched sounds that are relatively difficult to obtain in the bassoon can be easily and accurately introduced in the intonation without distracting the performer. For this purpose, 865 different bassoon reeds with different characteristics were produced. Seven different variables were found in the production of these bassoon reeds. The produced reeds were first tried by professional bassoon artists and evaluated through a questionnaire. At the end of this stage called pre-evaluation, 72 bassoon reeds which were given the highest price were selected. In this selection, four different types of reed were selected and the pre-evaluation of the successful reeds were listed. After the selection of different species of reed, each group was sent to a different institution and professional bassoon performers were able to evaluate bassoon reeds in these institutions. After determining the samples with high sales prices, which bassoon reed should be produced for solo works, chamber music and orchestral works according to customer demand was elaborated
