TEACHER OPINIONS AND AWARENESS ABOUT STEM EDUCATION

In our country, studies have been focused on STEM education in recent years. On the basis of the new education program published by the Ministry of National Education in February 2018, it is seen that the STEM approach will be put into practice under the name of engineering applications. In this line of work, data was collected using semi-structured interview method in order to determine STEM awareness of teachers in relevant area and to take teacher views towards STEM. The collected data was analyzed by content analysis, codes and themes were created and findings were evaluated. As a result of the analysis, it has been found out that Science teachers know and use more STEM model than other branches. Science and Mathematics teachers think their branches are one of the indispensable corner stones of the STEM model. On the other hand teachers avoid to use this model.it is determined that there are reasons such as teacher competencies, material needs and lack of cooperation, etc
