The Propaganda of the Committee of Union and Progress with Leyla Saz Han？m’s Artistic Perspective: Turkish Art Music, Vicdan-？ Muazzam

Ottoman Sultan II. Abdulhamid declared the Second Constitutional Monarchy in 1908. After the declaration of Constitutional Monarchy, The Committee of Union and Progress Party began to increase its influence on the Empire. The Party, especially towards the Unionist Enver Bey, started a big propaganda activity and shoed Enver Bey as a "Freedom Hero" in Ottoman society. In this process, the art of music was used effectively in propaganda activities of the party. In this study, it was discussed how Turkish music was used in the propaganda activities of the Committee of Union and Progress Party. In this respect, the words of the Vicdan-？ Muazzam of the famous Composer Leyla Saz, which was used in the propaganda activities of the Committee of Union and Progress, were examined by using semiotic analysis and its melody was analyzed through musical analysis. As a result of the semiotic analysis of the study, it was found that The Committee of Union and Progress offered themselves to the Ottoman people as "saviors" and "heros". When the Vicdan-？ Muazzam Anthem was examined with sensory analysis method, it was determined that the anthem was composed in the makam Hicazkar within Turkish traditional art music structure, between the range of Sol (Rast) - Do (Tiz ？argah), in march rhythmic form, in ascending scale, and in 4/4 Sofyan us？l
