Numerical Investigation of the Effect of Angular Velocity Variation on Shaft Strength in Helix Conveyors at constant capacity

Abstract:

Continuous transferring systems of helix conveyors are widely used in industry. Helix conveyors play an important role in the uninterrupted transport of granular materials (salt, sugar, cement, flour, plastic, mines, medical products, etc.) and all kinds of dust from one point to another, at chemical factories, food factories and cereal factories. A problem to occur in helix conveyors will reduce the production speed by causing the transmission to be interrupted if there is a machine fed by the helix conveyor. Helix conveyors should work smoothly to ensure continuous and uninterrupted material transmission. In this study, the compressive forces on the particles are modeled on the outer diameter 220 mm, 5 m long helix until the t = 8 s from the beginning of the transport process (t = 0) and in the t = 2, 4, 6 and 8 seconds particle conditions are displayed. At constant transmission capacity, the force and torque values on the shaft at 80 d/d and 100 d/d angular velocities were analyzed using EDEM program. Computational analyses shows that; the Q = 1.4 kg / s capacity, loading effects on the shaft are accordingly decreased at the higher angular speeds on the transmission
