Anesthesia Management for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in a Patient with Bartter Syndrome

Bartter syndrome, first described by Frederic Bartter in 1962, is a rare hereditary disease characterized by hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis, hyperaldesteronism, normal blood pressure and hyperplasia of the juxtaglomerular apparatus. Complications of Bartter syndrome should be considered during anesthesia management in patients undergoing open heart surgery, including acid-base disorders, electrolyte imbalance, intravascular volume deficit, vascular insensitivity to vasopressor drugs and a defect in platelet aggregation.
