A THEORETICAL VIEW ON FIBER ART

In international literature, textile crafts are accepted to be a part of fiber art. Textile fiber based materials form the piece of art through the use of different art disciplines and theories. Compositions transform into visual expressions through philosophy theories and gain a semantic value. Artist transforms the sensation and notion he wants to convey into a composition through the visual expression he created by using fiber materials on a symbolic expression basis. It is observed that artists have started to use fiber yarn and fabric structures more in current applications. While using fiber materials in compositions, artist approaches them objectively and transforms them into pieces of art by attributing a semantic value. Method: Method is a research focusing on the qualitative process in terms of fiber art applications field research. The obtained data and documents are analytically analyzed and evaluated in terms of the relation of art theories with the process and their effect on it. Bauhaus school has a significant role in shaping the art of fiber through its original art theories; on the basis of this fact, the process of refusing traditional education methods in its era and creating and practicing the institution’s very own education model and philosophy is presented as field research. On the other hand, Lozan Tapestry Biennales, in which conceptual approaches to textile fiber art are discussed and conceptual textile applications are defined and sampled, are analyzed through field research. Fiber art applications in current and modern art exhibitions are presented and evaluated besides the findings obtained through field research and relation between all these elements. Result; the reflection of art theories on fiber art practices and its conceptual definition are analyzed in terms of literature. The roles of fiber at applications on perception are explained. Semantic relations of fiber art with art philosophy and art theories are presented through examples. Determining factors in the process of increasing interest in using fiber art as a way of expression and semantic value in fiber art applications in current art environments are analyzed
