Investigating the Relationship Between Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile and Anxiety and Depression in Current SmokersKeywords: Sigara b?rakma,anksiyete,depresyon,sa?l?kl? ya?am tarz? Abstract: Aim: The aim was to evaluate the anxiety and depression levels according to the sociodemographic features and smoking history and also to determine the association of anxiety and depression with health promoting lifestyle behavior. Material and Methods: Patients who have been admitted to the smoking cessation outpatient clinic of a tertiary hospital without any comorbidities and who had Hospital Anxiety Depression(HAD) and Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II) in hospital records were included to this retrospective study. Sociodemographic features, Fagerstr?m Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) and smoking behavior history were investigated retrospectively and statistically evaluated. Results: Among 73 patients 43(58,9%) were men,30(41,1%) were women.HAD Anxiety(HAD-A) mean score was 8,74±3,55; HAD Depression(HAD-D) mean score was 7,04±3,74 and HPLP II mean total score was 125,44±20,07. Gender and educational status were associated with HAD-A mean scores. In blue-collar workers, mean HAD-A and HAD-D scores were higher than white-collar workers (p=0,015; p=0,002, respectively). A medium negative significant correlation was found between HAD-A ve HAD-D scores and HPLP II total scores and subscales of spiritual development, stres management and physical acitvity. Also a medium negative correlation was observed between HAD-A scores and health responsibility scores. Conclusion: Different health promoting lifestyle behavior interact with each other and anxiety and depression. Besides smoking lack of practicing other health promoting behavior, inadequate spiritual development and stres management anxiety and depression levels may increase. A holistic approach should be adopted towards patients during smoking cessation
