THE MIGRATION INTENTION OF ACADEMICIANS: THE EXAMPLE OF ERZURUM PROVINCEKeywords: Toplum,G??,Sosyo-Ekonomik Yap?,Sosyal Politika,Erzurum Abstract: Internal and external migration has especially occurred since the second half of the 20th century in Turkey. External migration was started by the Labour Recruitment Agreement between Turkey and Germany on 30 October 1961. On the otherhand internal migration has been a continuous phenomenon since 1950s. The cities located in eastern and inland parts of the country, mainly Eastern and South Eastern Anatolian with Black see provinces, give unceasing migration to big cities such as Istanbul, Ankara and ?zmir every passing day. While receiving cities are growing and developing much more, especially the Eastern Anatolia Region and the cities of this region continue to shrink in terms of socio-economic conditions. The east of Turkey, especially Erzurum province, is a geography where the migration has become chronic. Despite the decrease in migration rate in recent years, migration continues and this situation negatively affects the participation of people to the workforce and the level of their life satisfaction. The study consists of two parts. In the first part migration phenomenon and in the second part the policies to prevent migration in the region are examined In this context, the opinions of academicians working at Atatürk University on migration were evaluated through a questionnaire and the inadequate policies implemented in Erzurum province were determined
