Investigation of Aggression in terms of Various Variables in Adolescence

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the aggression levels of adolescents according to sex, age, perceived environmental safety, personality traits, perceived parental attitudes and peer relationships. The research was performed in by using the relational survey method. 461 high school students participated in the study; 202 of the participants were female (43.8%), 259 (56.2%) were male; the mean age was 15.69 (SD=1.20). The research data were collected by using "Personal Information Form", "Aggression Questionnaire", "Sense of Safety Scale", "Adjective Based Personality Test", "Parental Attitude Scale" and "Peer Relationship Scale". Correlation, t-test and multiple linear regression analyzes were performed to determine the relationships between the variables in the study. As a result of the analyzes, it was found that the subscales of aggression were related to sex, age, perceived environmental security, personality traits, perceived parental attitudes and peer relationships at different levels. As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that personality traits of agreeableness, neuroticism, extroversion and openness dimensions, peer relations' loyalty and self-disclosure dimensions, and parental attitudes of acceptance/interest and psychological autonomy were significant predictors of aggression. The mentioned variables together explain for 31% of the total variance
