THE IMPACTS OF WORKERS’ SETTLEMENTS AND LODGEMENT AREAS OF THE REPUBLICAN PERIOD ON THE CITY: THE CASE OF BURSA

The industrial revolution is described as the transition to mass production in Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries with the widespread use of machinery in production and increasing the capital accumulation in Europe. With the Industrial Revolution, one of the greatest transformations in the history of mankind, large-scale factory production has been started from house type production, and many factories have been needed for mass-fast production. As a result, factories and industrial cities with new working places have also become places where people stay outside. With the factories where the production is provided, it is inevitable that the lodgings that minimize the loss of time will occur. In this period, the first industrial cities and housing examples in European countries such as England, Germany and France are encountered. In the study, the first industrial cities, working class, various period utopias and the new views taken by the cities were asked. These types of settlements firstly developed people living in different ways and affected their cities. Nowadays, many of the factory campuses and many of these residences have lost their function and are seen as abandoned industrial areas. Such areas are important for urban memory, industrial structures of the past. This architectural heritage must be registered and protected.
