Abstract:

There is no reference work written in Turkish about the Cyprus-based annals and historical sources related with the history of late medieval Eastern Mediterranean, as far as I can see. We can only mention that ?ehabettin Tekinda? used certain copies of those annals and historical sources in his studies. However, new critical editions of annals referred in the studies by both Tekinda? and George Hill, who also studied the same subject, have been produced. While they mostly cited French translations done towards the beginning of the 20th century or the original copies; today, critical editions of many works given below have been produced or these works have been translated into English. The most significant of these annals containing information about Anatolian Principalities and Mamluks are Leontios Makhairas, Amadi, Strambaldi, Florio Bustron, George Boustronios and Stephen de Lusignan. In addition to this, references providing information about Cyprus and surroundings such as works by Guillaume de Machaut and Philippe de Mézières should be cited here. Therefore, we decided to mention these under the context of Cyprus annals. They comprise detailed information about the conflicts between Karaman, Alaiyye and Teke seigniors and Lusignan Kingdom of Cyprus and the dominance of Mamluks in the region. Thus, along with the information about copies, editions and translations of the annals, their contents and historical importance were addressed in this study.
