“Pepee”: from the Art Educators’ Viewpoint

Abstract:

The aim of this research is to analyze the contribution of Pepee animation series to art education by using art educators’ opinions. The research is carried out in phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods. The data was acquired by using semi-structured interview technique, which was done with six art educators. In the analysis of data, first, the participants’ opinions are coded. Later, by using these codes, themes are generated and interpreted. According to research findings, Pepee animation series is found successful in terms of supporting school learning while found inefficient in terms of guiding children to creative experiences and developing aesthetic judgement. Besides, directing children to consumption is expressed as a drawback. According to these findings; It has been suggested that creativity and aesthetic values should be emphasized in animation film designs by going out from the example of Pepee
