THE EFFECTS OF SMART FACADE SYSTEMS TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN TERMS OF ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOM？CAL CONTEXT

After industrial revolution, the countries which had difficult times during World War I and World War II, tried to enter a quick phase of growth and development which brought increased production. This caused environmental issues and ecological instability as a result of damaged natural resources like coal and improper usage. Economic depressions and environmental disasters which arised from environmental issues, showed procedures followed for development is not right. After these damages, as a reaction many conferences and reports are done. As a result of these works, “sustainable development” concept arised. Smart building concept arised as a result of energy crisis caused by rapid growth of population and running out natural resources because of imroper use. Facade is the most vulnerable area to energy loss because it has the most surface of the buildings. Facade of building, when designed as smart fa？ade, can prevent energy-loss and meet the energy needed for the building. Knowing that 40 percent of energy used in our country and world is used for construction and operating phase of the buildings, it shows how smart building facades play an important role in sustainable development. In this article scope, it is reviewed how smart building facades impact sustainable development and interpreted samples in Turkey and the world
