The Name “Turk” and Panorama of Pre-Islamic Turkish History

In our this study, first, we dwelt upon emergence and meaning of the name ‘‘Turk’’, and then addressed Asian steppes which are the place where Turkish People got on the stage of history. We stated location of area which is called as homeland of Turkish People, in the light of sources&references, and explained that Turkish culture is a Steppe culture. We stated that Turkish People, who had the steppe culture, migrated from their homelands to different directions due to negative conditions to which they exposed, and that groups who stayed in the Homeland in consequence of these migrations built the first Turkish political unity. In our study, here we dealt with these first Turkish states which are the current political unities that were built in the Homeland and areas connected to that, until VIIIth century A.D., and we examined their political lifes.Purpose of our this study is to address Turkishness in a historical integrity (harmony) and to ascertain its panoramic situation. Within this panorama, our views with regard to pre-islamic Turkishness are also a ring of Turkish history in the forthcoming periods and mark it. In this context, it becomes possible also to see holism of Turkish history and that it (Turkish history) is continuation of each other, which would be able to examine in different geographies and at different times
