UNDERSTANDING the MODELS USED in TRANSCULTURAL NURSING and the PROCESS of CULTURAL COMPETENCE MODEL

Transcultural nursing is an increasingly important issue due to the increasing migrating population in Turkey. Considering the evidence, it is clear that there is a link between understanding patient's culture and the health outcomes of the patient. Immigrant patients’ cultures should be taken into account when giving care to the people. For health care professionals, understanding culture and giving culturally competent care to people is an active developmental process. That’s why there are models that health care professionals can use in order to better understand cultures and provide adequate transcultural care. The purpose of this review is to examine the models involved in transcultural nursing that helps provide culturally competent care and to examine in detail the ‘The Process Of Cultural Competence Model’ which forms the basis of transcultural nursing. It is also aimed to draw attention to how transcultural nursing are becoming more important for host countries
