HIV/AIDS: Current Perspectives

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection remains a major health issue worldwide. In this Timeline review article, we aimed to provide a historical perspective of some of the considerable milestones in HIV science. This review manuscript will focus on some of the current research directions about epidemiology, transmission ways, clinical symptoms, current diagnostic algorithm and effective tretment regimens, in particular in the search for a cure for HIV. Moreover, viral infections will also be assessed in terms of sociological dimensions, such as stigmatization and exclusion, which are seen in our community and are still untreatable
