INVESTIGATION of PRIMARY TUBERCULOSIS DRUG RESISTANCE in MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS from PATIENTS with PULMONARY TUBERCULOSISKeywords: Mycobacterium tuberculosis, diren?,akci?er tüberkülozu Abstract: Significant increas in drug-resistant tuberculosis cases which effect the public health has been detected in last years. In this study, we aimed to determine the primary tuberculosis drug resistance rates in Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates obtained from patients diagnosed with lung tuberculosis in our province. In 2010-2014, a sample of people who applied to the Mersin Tuberculosis Dispensary for diagnosis was reviewed to Adana Reference Region Laboratory. Primary anti-tuberculosis drug susceptibility was determined by Lewenstein-Jensenand Mycobacteria Growth Ind?cat?r Tube (Becton Dickinson, ABD) in phlegm specimens diagnosed with tuberculosis. The results of the cases with culture positivity were recorded in the examination result book and patient files. Data were obtained from these records retrospectively. The maximum drug resistance was determined to be resistant to isoniazid with %9.4, followed by streptomycin with %4.1. In the new cases with pulmonary tuberculosis, multiple drug resistance was %3.6, %30 in the old cases and the total rate of multi-drugresistant tuberculosis was %5.7. In our study, it was found that 146 (%59.8) males and 224 (%91.8) new cases were among the 244 cases with Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture positi drug resistance. It was found that 57 cases (%23.4) were concentrated between the ages of 25-34. While 182 (%74.6) of the cases were susceptible to all drugs, 62 (%25.4) were resistant to at least one drug (%14.8 to one drug, %6.6 to two drug, %2.5 to three drug, and%1.6 to four drug resistance). It was determined that maximum drug resistance was developed against isoniazid with %9.4, followed by streptomycin resistance with %4.1. In the new cases with pulmonary tuberculosis, multiple drug resistance was %3.6, %30 in the old cases and the total rate of multiple drug resistance was %5.7. Our findings Ministry of Health Department of Tuberculosis Turkey are higher than average. It is recommended that drug resistance be taken into consideration while treating tuberculosis patients and that the treatment should be continued under direct supervision without delay
