Determination of the Effects of Different Water Table Depth and Salinity Levels on Soil Salinity Changes under Mulch Conditions

Abstract:

The study was conducted to determine the effects of 4 different salt levels (EC0=0.7 dS m-1 (control) (0), EC2=2 dS m-1 (2), EC3=3 dS m-1 (3) ve EC5=5 dS m-1 (5)), two different water table levels (depth of 41 cm (TS1) and 31 cm (TS2) from the soil surface) and with mulch (1) and without mulch (2) to the salt distribution in soil profile under greenhouse conditions. 100 micron thick polyethilen mulch material was used on the soil surface as the mulch material. Water salinity in tanks was formed by adding NaCl salt to tap water. In the experiment, 14 water tanks and 42 plastic pots with 50 L volumes and holes in the base were used. In this study, water evaporated in TS1-without mulched (2) was 44% and 42% more than TS1-mulched (1) and TS2-mulched treatments, respectively. The amount of evaporation changed according to the electrical conductivity of water in the tank. The soil salinity of TS2-1-EC5 treatment increased as the depth increased and the EC of the soil surface was determined to be dramatically low. It was determined that the average soil salinity in the soil profile of without mulched treatment was 28% higher than the soil profile of mulched treatment and most of the salt accumulation was on the soil surface and decreased depended on the depth. In general, electrical conductivity of without mulched treatment was 48% higher than mulched treatment. The highest soil temperature was obtained from the EC5 treatments which had higher salinity. At the same time, soil profile temperature values increased as the electrical conductivity increased in TS1-Mulched and TS2-Mulched treatments.
