TENDENCY OF VOTERS FOR THE MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS: PROVINCE OF MERSIN METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY EXAMPLE

2014 Local Election results have changed the party of Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality from the party that had been governing the city for about 12 years in Mersin. These results indicate the importance of priorities and tendency of voters. This study investigates the tendency of voters when they are voting based on the survey conducted just before the Municipal Elections held in 2014 in Mersin. The result indicates that the first priority of the voters is the candidates’ projects and their performance followed by the candidates’ party and their leaders. The study also reveals that the demographic characteristics of the voters such as gender, age, education level, occupation, and the province affect their priority when they are voting
