MINORITIES IN THE PROCESS OF ?STANBUL’S ADMINISTRATION TRANSITION TO TURKISH GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MANAGEMENT

Abstract:

After the Ottoman Empire was defeated in the First World War and retreated from war by signing the Moudros Armistice on 30th October 1918, ?stanbul was occupied by Entente States actually on 13th November 1918 and officially on 16th March 1920. Invasion process of Entente States lasted until 2nd October 1923 and some minorities in the city took advantage of these invasion. Especially Greeks, Armenians and Jews revealed thier sense of hostilities against Turks who lived together for a long time during that period and they created some uproars. Also they mediated injustices of Entente States. These wrong attitudes of minorites lasted until the winning of The Great Offensive by the Turkish Grand National Assembly armies and signing of Mudanya Armistice. These gains of Turks enchafed the minorities. After that along with Turkish Grand National Assembly’s take over the administration of ?stanbul increased their apprehension completely. After this date, minorities had the idea that Turks would cop an attitude against them and take revenge. Thus, they acted in different ways in ?stanbul in order to protect themselves. Some of them escaped from ?stanbul, some had the thought of organizing againist the Turks and some of them were registered as soldiers to the Entente States. Also some of them declared their loyalties to Turkish Grand National Assembly. Although Turks did not show a negative attitude towards minorities at this time, they were worried about the evils they had done in the past and this led them behave in a different way
