Abstract:

Avicenna, who lived between 980 and 1037, is a great Turkish thinker who has shaped not only Turkish Islamic thought but also Western thought with his studies in medicine and philosophy. Avicenna, whose works are related to medicine, logic, logic, philology, mathematics, astronomy physics, is especially important in the field of metaphysics. Avicenna's views on emotions are based on the psychological, moral, knowledge and metaphysical views. He argues that the soul of man is the substance of man, and that after he left the body, he continued his spiritual existence. According to him, the soul is a spiritual substance and is scattered throughout the body's organs. The soul and body meet when you feel something in your organs, when you are angry or excited. This draw is linked to the vision of the triune split of the soul, which has been effective since Plato. Avicenna makes this division based on the nafs. Here the nafs is understood as the common principle of the creatures and the forces of material object. The intellect which is the basic principle of the human self is determinative in the understanding of emotions. The guiding concept for the emotion is the happiness. Since Avicenna sees happiness as the aim of human life, he draws the path of attaining this goal and is analyzing happiness. According to Avicenna, happiness or highest pleasure arises from goodness. It is say that the best is most preferred, the most preferred is the best. The absolute dimension of happiness may become meaningful with emotional exaltation but with mystical effort. But the real participation in happiness will take place in the next life from this world
