Abstract:

Objective: To effectively reduce the incidence of phlebitis after PICC catheterization in very low birth weight infants. Methods: From January 19, 2014 to March 19, 2014, 27 cases of PICC were increased in NICU, whose incidence rate was 52.94%. The Department and our hospital infection control department actively analyzed the reasons, formulated measures and took control measures after the severe problems occurred. The fundamental cause analysis from the following four aspects, the medical staff, children themselves, department management, as well as other factors was conducted. Medical staff was analyzed from personnel seniority, operation skill, vascular selection, analysis of catheter tip location; factors of children mainly from the weight, age, physical activity, skin cleanliness analysis; management is analyzed in personnel training, supervision and management, environment; other factors mainly from the fixed method, pipeline, pipeline maintenance were analyzed. For the above reasons, the incidence of phlebitis was induced from 52.94% to 6.01% when the corresponding measures were taken. Results: The incidence of phlebitis was reduced from 52.94% to 6.01%. Conclusion: The incidence rate of phlebitis after PICC catheterization in low weight infants is closely related with material, medical personnel, children, management and other factors
