Taking inspiration from James Clifford's remarks about the profession of anthropologist, the article critically analyzes the collections of Albanian customary norms known as Kanun, with particular reference to the work of Father Francisca Shtjef？n Kostantin Gje？ovi: Kanuni i Lek？ Dukagjinit. After a brief overview of the contents of the collection, it reconstructs the work of textualization carried out by the Franciscan father. Subsequently, it analyzes the transcription of such norms from the ancient oral form, by using Walter J. Ong's studies
