The various war events in 1916 and 1917, which saw Romania surrounded and defeated by the Austro-German armies despite strong resistance, confirmed the attention of the Italian government to the Romanian interests but, as the other Entente powers, it was not able to give concrete help for Romanian emergency. When the war ended, Italy gave again some contribution within the Entente for the formal recognition of the Romanian territorial aspiration
