Verbal violence in students of compulsory secondary education

Abstract There is a growing public alarm about verbal violence by adolescents in educative center. The object of this study is to know the perception of students of compulsory secondary education (CSE) about the verbal violence exerted on classmates and teachers, identifying personal and school factors that intervene. It was used a quantitative methodology with the application of the questionnaire of perceived school violence (CUVE-R-ESO) that 4467 students ( M=13.81; DT=1.38). The results show increased presence of verbal violence among companions (bad-mouthing each other, spread negative rumors about colleagues, make nicknames or insulting) to verbal violence toward teachers (disrespect, insults). The inferential analysis shows a prevalence in the verbal violence of women of older age, enrolled in upper courses of CSE and with repeated course. In addition, verbal violence among companions is higher in concerted rural centers, while verbal violence against teachers is higher in urban centers of public character; there are no statistically significant differences in the family structure. In conclusion, the verbal violence in educative centers is a prevalent behavior that is not perceived as an alarming behavior on the part of the pupil
